Target Area

We are presently focusing on a four square mile area recognized as Detroit’s second empowerment community- east of the Cass Corridor. This area includes two square miles presently a part of Detroit proper, and two square miles, which presently make up the city of Hamtramck. The total population of this four square mile area is 65,000. The city of Hamtramck is home to five major people groups: African American, Polish, Arab, Bosnian and Asian Indians (from Bangladesh).  This empowerment community represents some of the lowest standard marks in the nation in terms of family structure, economics, education, employment development, and housing. The Islamic faith is prevalent and is proclaimed by a large percentage of the population of Hamtramck.
