Board Ups

The Permanent Solution to Blight…

authored by admin

Boarding up a home will not stop a determined individual from breaking in– it is a temporary solution. Wood can be smashed, and screws can be taken out. Oftentimes, this is the case. By our estimation, roughly half of the calls for a board up are repeat jobs. Many of these homes, where habitual break-ins occur, have been demolished by the city. We are thankful to see the destruction of some of these homes that have been a constant source of blight in the community, but are at the same time saddened by the wastefulness of the whole situation.

The other, permanent solution, which is more desirable, is reoccupation. 72 times in the book of Deuteronomy, God tells his people to ‘take possession’, and 72 times, he tells them why. To the brave souls willing to: take on one of these ‘fixer uppers’, permanently remove blight, and commit to being light in their community and a shepherd on their street – our hats go off to you. Oftentimes, these homes are in good condition structurally and are dirt cheap, but the plumbing and electrical systems will need replacement. We’d love to work with you, please contact us regarding an estimation.
