In a city as diverse as Hamtramck, Acts 29 has to serve adults with diverse needs. Reaching out to our foreign-born neighbors is not always easy, but it is always rewarding.

Imagine living in a foreign country and being unable to speak, read or write the language. How would you help your children in school? How would you learn to drive? How would make any friends? Acts 29 is aware that helping non-English speaking adults learn English is only one way to reach out to them with the love of Jesus.

Imagine being in a foreign country with no job and no way to know how to get help for your family. What if your children had no beds to sleep in? Acts 29 wants to be the answer to its neighbors that are in desperate need of attention and help, but have no voice.

On a weekly basis, Acts 29 staff members are visiting the homes of their ESL students.  Over the years, we have gone on home visits to pray with our students, share about Christ, build relationships with students and learn more about the their culture.  It only takes one visit to a student’s home before there is a change in the student’s openness and trust in the relationship.  Family is a central part of the Bengali and Yemeni cultures, so it means a lot to them for their teacher to meet their families.  There have been students who have begun to read the Bible, students who have had dreams of Christ and many students who have heard the Gospel.  We constantly hope and pray that our students will meet Christ and be given the courage to follow Him.
