Cross Cultural Ministry

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20

American cities are becoming home to various people groups from all over the world. It is not unusual to drive through an inner city and see 3 different grocery stores on the same block with their names written in 3 different languages. The diversity of America gives great opportunity to share the good news of Christ with peoples of many nations without having to apply for a passport and embark on a long journey. One could be a missionary to a “foreign land” in their own backyard in many inner-cities in the United States. The nations have come to us.

This is undeniably true of Hamtramck, Michigan. It is home to five major people groups, all of which have an estimated population between 2,000 and 6,000. Here in Hamtramck one will find the people of Yemen, the people of Bangladesh, the people of Bosnia, the people of Poland, and many other smaller smatterings of European, African, and Asian people groups inside of 2 square miles.

The Muslim call to prayer rings out over loudspeakers 5 times a day, echoing from seven local mosques located in the city. Grocery stores filled with spices from Bangladesh and other stores with products only labled in Polish are common here. It is common to see a number of Yemeni women taking a stroll down the sidewalk covered from head to toe in black robes and head scarfs, showing only their eyes, as is there custom. If you love cultural diversity you will love Hamtramck.

Acts 29 believes that Jesus’ message of reconciliation with God is for all people. We find it a privilege to minister in such a diverse city. We are passionate about missions to adults, youth and children. Some of our ministries to foreign born peoples include:
