Acts 29 Fellowship is currently looking for volunteers for its Men’s ESL program. Volunteer positions are open for multiple commitment levels. We would appreciate any commitment from occasional help to teaching commitments of more than six hours a week. We are looking for men who are passionate lovers of Jesus Christ, affirm our Statement of Faith and are available for at least part of our current class time schedule. Our current ESL class schedule is 9:30-11:30 on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, but opportunities in the afternoon and evening will be opening as well. English, ESL/TESL, or Education degrees and training would be helpful, but are not necessary.

We are looking for teachers who can make a consistent commitment to teach or assist an entire class and maintain a strong Christian witness. In addition to classroom opportunities, we would be blessed by teachers and assistants who are available to visit with students in their homes and engage in cross-cultural relationships. If you are a proficient English speaker and reader, have a living relationship with Jesus Christ that you are willing to share, and a warm heart you are perfectly qualified to teach English with us. On-the-job training in teaching English and cross-cultural ministry will be a part of the process. Please pray about this opportunity and tell your friends, churches and church members.

“Back to school” for Acts 29 means back to Mrs. Housey’s 6th grade class to help her students with social studies through academic quizzing. The year starts out with the class dividing into groups in which the students meet their coaches and come up with a team name and flag design. Then once a week, the team of coaches visits Mrs. Housey’s class to teach the Social Studies material to their group. At the end of the class period, the students compete in a quiz competition based on their study material. The students also learn a new character principle each week, usually from Proverbs. The Lord has blessed us with this opportunity to share Christ’s love with the city in helping Holbrook Elementary School. Because the Lord has provided hands to help, resources, an open door, and prayer support, Mrs. Housey has seen her students’ grades improve.
This year, we have been blessed with help from a Pastor from Ward Presbyterian, a Wayne State Student Intern and women who attend Acts 29 Fellowship. These coaches are investing in their students weekly and loving them. One of the teams has won three times and has celebrated their accomplishment at a ‘Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Party’ held at Acts 29. Please pray that this ministry would bring glory to God. Pray also that the students, being mostly Yemeni, would hear the Gospel through history, social studies and fellowship time with their coaches.

On November 9th and 10th Acts 29 Fellowship partnered with Grove City Alliance to host our first missions and prayer conference. The Be Light conference was a dynamic event saturated in prayer and filled with mutual encouragement, discovery and evangelistic opportunity and inspiration. The two nights of fellowship included guest speakers Pastors John Mark and Janine Nguma and Jacob Moulē from Gabon, Africa who shared a stirring encouragement to live a life of daily demonstration to the world of the truth of Jesus Christ. Our guest speakers also provided an authentic African dinner for our fellowship as we sang praises to God for his provision of friends, food and a worldwide missions family.

The following night Evangelists Alberto & Patricia Salazar from Peru provided Peruvian cuisine and gave a passionate testimony and call to salvation and discipleship to our fellowship. Pastor Alberto focused on our young people specifically as the Lord gave him a heart to see them changed and to see Hamtramck become a “factory” for men and women of God. The conference was encouraging, even as it fueled our passion and burden for our city. Unity with our partners in missions around the world gives us a fresh heart and a fresh look at the work of God within us and within our city.

Dear friends and supporters,

We would like to thank you for your generous gifts and prayers for Acts 29’s 2011 Camp Szmuldooh: Faith on FYRE. Both our youth and our staff are greatly blessed and we know the Lord will honor your investment and generosity with His blessing. Supporters like you give us the boldness, support and encouragement needed to stand for Christ in our city and bring the gospel to a generation of youth who are preparing to make a great impact on the world. Thank you for sharing and encouraging our hope that when we stand in glory and see Jesus face to face, we will be joined by great numbers of people whose lives were saved by the presence of Christ’s light in Hamtramck.

Through the week of camp we presented a clear gospel message, emphasizing receiving salvation and all that we need for life and godliness by faith. From that foundation we went on to define faith and the faith walk, giving examples and formations for growing in faith. This was supported by significant one on one time with the students, answering their questions, helping them apply the teaching to their lives and challenging them to take the next step of faith. We were blessed by the student’s response. Their willingness to listen and engage and the overall presence of God made us aware of God’s blessing and success in bringing the word to an applicable place in the student’s lives.

We felt the fruit of your prayers and the work of God in each counselor and student. Each one of our camp crew brought the presence of God into the room with powerful teaching and a life testimony of a walk of faith. It was immensely encouraging and challenging for the staff and the students, and we all left excited to make new decisions and additions to our faith walk. We thank God for the ministry of the Holy Spirit during the week, who was working constantly to establish every student and staff member in a higher walk of faith. Thank you for your prayerful support and may God richly bless you.

Get a thorough taste of camp by looking at our FAITH ON FYRE CAMP MANUAL

We would like to thank the mission team from Reynoldsburg Alliance in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, who came to serve with us for a week. They partnered with us with a great attitude and an open spirit. They enabled us to host a picnic for the women’s ESL class, tear down a collapsing garage for an elderly woman and for the safety of the city, host our family and friends dinner on Sunday morning, prepare for camp and so much more. We are grateful for their spiritual impact on the city, their prayers, their presence, their encouragement and their partnership in the gospel. You can get a glimpse of their trip in the pictures below!

God Is Looking For Men And Women Of F-A-I-T-H

FAITHFUL — There are a lot of people out there proclaiming how good they are, but few who actually deliver the goods.

“Many a man claims to have unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?“ (Proverbs 20:6)

AVAILABLE — Many of us are so overcommitted we resemble a person skiing down the hill in front of an avalanche: There is no margin for error and disaster is imminent.

Are you emotionally available to God so that if He were to speak to you, you would be able to hear and respond to His gentle voice?

“He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets… And after the fire came a gentle whisper… Elijah heard it… “ (Isaiah 42:2; 1 Kings 19:12b, 13a)

INTERDEPENDENT — Some of us parallel the fierce independence of Rambo, wanting to be and do the whole show. Over the long haul however, loners don’t make it spiritually. A study of 1 Corinthians 12-14, and related passages, clearly teach and illustrate the principle of interdependence, rather than independence. The fact is that we need each other.

TEACHABLE — Tell me, as you mature and gain in stature, are you still willing to learn from the most humble of sources?

“Better a poor but wise youth than an old but foolish king who no longer knows how to take warning.“ (Ecclesiastes 4:13)

HOLY — The reality is that God uses clean vessels:

“In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble. If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.“ (2 Timothy 2:20, 21)

Are you one of them?
